COMFORT ZONE

What is your comfort zone? How do you define it?  We all have one and it is different for everyone. You most likely have a comfort zone at work, at home, socially and outside of the home.  Knowing what you are dealing with will help you be able to push outside of that zone while celebrating the progress you make.

Do you have dreams to step outside of your comfort zone?

Start by reframing your idea of comfort. Remember, at one point your current cozy little “box”  was not comfortable. You created this comfort by taking a risk and then  residing  inside that zone. You gained knowledge and trust. This helped you to feel safe and secure.  Comfort is relative.

Stepping into van life was not comfortable for us. It was brand new and we had no idea what we were doing. We didn’t know the difference between 12V and 110 and why it is important. We didn’t know how to empty a toilet at a dump station. We didn’t know how to winterize. We didn’t know how all the buttons and gadgets worked.  It all seemed overwhelming.  Yet we were inspired and motivated to learn.  We walked through our fears and found some support along the way. We jumped in with both feet and traveled for a year. This was scary but so worthwhile.

Taking a risk and getting out of our comfort zone allowed us to have amazing experiences and meet some incredible people along the way. It was empowering and so rewarding.  Now our comfort zone continues to grow and expand. We are able to be the ones who provide support to others to step out of their comfort zone. This feels like paying it forward. It provides so much meaning to what we do on the road.

I’ve found that the end of one thing is the beginning of something new.  Risks provide reward- whether or not we “succeed.” We are always learning.  We are gaining confidence with new experiences.

The question to ask yourself  is, what if you don’t take the leap? Where will you be in a year or  three years? Will you be ok with the status quo and staying stuck in the safe walls you have built around you? Or… do you want to break down the door and walk through to a bright and sunny new beginning?
